While we were singing this morning, we asked God to show us His glory, show us His power, to open up the heavens and to flow like a mighty river. I heard the Lord say, “Be careful what you ask for. Are you actually ready for My Presence?” Do we know what we are asking for when we say we want to see Him?Moses was only allowed to see the Lord’s back and his face shone afterwards so that the people were afraid to look at him. Elijah had to hide his face behind his cloak as the Lord passed by.
At the Transfiguration, the disciples heard The Father’s voice and fell on their faces. Do we really understand what we are asking for? When the Lord comes as a mighty river, he drowns and washes away the Egyptians; He covers the whole earth, except for those in the ark. Do we really want Him to wash away all of our ties to the things that have held us in bondage? Are we ready to journey in the wilderness as the Lord prepares us to be His people or are we going to grumble and reminisce about the good old days in Egypt where we sat around and ate our fill of the food of captivity? Are we really ready to experience the Presence of God? He wants to pour out His Presence, but He won’t waste it. He won’t pour into a full cup. To experience the Presence of the Lord, we need to be empty of our selves.
(This is a prophetic word that was given to Kate Hults (Fr. Ralph’s office manager at Christ the King in New Paltz NY) on this past Sunday.)
