Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

ⓘ 'Venite' is Latin for 'O Come,' the opening word of Psalm 95: Venite exultemus Domino ('O Come, let us sing to the LORD').

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 40

⁽¹⁾ I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.⁽²⁾ He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.⁽³⁾ He has put a new song in my mouth -- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.⁽⁴⁾ Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

⁽⁵⁾ Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered.⁽⁶⁾ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.⁽⁷⁾ Then I said, 'Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me.⁽⁸⁾ I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.'

Psalm 54

⁽¹⁾ Save me, O God, by Your name, And vindicate me by Your strength.⁽²⁾ Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth.⁽³⁾ For strangers have risen up against me, And oppressors have sought after my life; They have not set God before them. Selah⁽⁴⁾ Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who uphold my life.

Ecclesiastes Chapter 5

⁽¹⁾ Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.⁽²⁾ Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.⁽³⁾ For a dream comes through much activity, And a fool's voice is known by his many words.⁽⁴⁾ When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed --

⁽⁵⁾ Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.⁽⁶⁾ Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands?⁽⁷⁾ For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God.

Galatians Chapter 3

⁽¹⁵⁾ Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man's covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.⁽¹⁶⁾ Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, 'And to seeds,' as of many, but as of one, 'And to your Seed,' who is Christ.⁽¹⁷⁾ And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.⁽¹⁸⁾ For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

⁽¹⁹⁾ What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.⁽²⁰⁾ Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.⁽²¹⁾ Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.⁽²²⁾ But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

Matthew Chapter 14

⁽²²⁾ Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.⁽²³⁾ And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.⁽²⁴⁾ But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.⁽²⁵⁾ Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.

⁽²⁶⁾ And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, 'It is a ghost!' And they cried out for fear.⁽²⁷⁾ But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.'⁽²⁸⁾ And Peter answered Him and said, 'Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.'⁽²⁹⁾ So He said, 'Come.' And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

⁽³⁰⁾ But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, 'Lord, save me!'⁽³¹⁾ And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, 'O you of little faith, why did you doubt?'⁽³²⁾ And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.⁽³³⁾ Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, 'Truly You are the Son of God.'

⁽³⁴⁾ When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.⁽³⁵⁾ And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick,⁽³⁶⁾ and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

The Second Song of Isaiah Isaiah 55:6 to 11

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found;
call upon him when he draws near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways
and the evil ones their thoughts;

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, and, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages.
