Epiphany
I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6b

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 80

Genesis Chapter 25

⁽¹⁹⁾ This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham's son. Abraham begot Isaac. ⁽²⁰⁾ Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian. ⁽²¹⁾ Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived. ⁽²²⁾ But the children struggled together within her; and she said, 'If all is well, why am I like this?' So she went to inquire of the LORD.

⁽²³⁾ And the LORD said to her:'Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.' ⁽²⁴⁾ So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. ⁽²⁵⁾ And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau. ⁽²⁶⁾ Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau's heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents. ⁽²⁸⁾ And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob. ⁽²⁹⁾ Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. ⁽³⁰⁾ And Esau said to Jacob, 'Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.' Therefore his name was called Edom.

⁽³¹⁾ But Jacob said, 'Sell me your birthright as of this day.' ⁽³²⁾ And Esau said, 'Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?' ⁽³³⁾ Then Jacob said, 'Swear to me as of this day.' So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. ⁽³⁴⁾ And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Hebrews Chapter 13

⁽¹⁾ Let brotherly love continue. ⁽²⁾ Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. ⁽³⁾ Remember the prisoners as if chained with them -- those who are mistreated -- since you yourselves are in the body also. ⁽⁴⁾ Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

⁽⁵⁾ Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' ⁽⁶⁾ So we may boldly say: 'The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?' ⁽⁷⁾ Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. ⁽⁸⁾ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

⁽⁹⁾ Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. ⁽¹⁰⁾ We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. ⁽¹¹⁾ For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. ⁽¹²⁾ Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

⁽¹³⁾ Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. ⁽¹⁴⁾ For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. ⁽¹⁵⁾ Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. ⁽¹⁶⁾ But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

John Chapter 7

⁽³⁷⁾ On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. ⁽³⁸⁾ He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.' ⁽³⁹⁾ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, 'Truly this is the Prophet.'

⁽⁴¹⁾ Others said, 'This is the Christ.' But some said, 'Will the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁽⁴²⁾ Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?' ⁽⁴³⁾ So there was a division among the people because of Him. ⁽⁴⁴⁾ Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

⁽⁴⁵⁾ Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, 'Why have you not brought Him?' ⁽⁴⁶⁾ The officers answered, 'No man ever spoke like this Man!' ⁽⁴⁷⁾ Then the Pharisees answered them, 'Are you also deceived? ⁽⁴⁸⁾ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?

⁽⁴⁹⁾ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.' ⁽⁵⁰⁾ Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, ⁽⁵¹⁾ Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?' ⁽⁵²⁾ They answered and said to him, 'Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.

Seasonal Collect:  Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany
Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
