Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 55

⁽¹⁾ Give ear to my prayer, O God, And do not hide Yourself from my supplication. ⁽²⁾ Attend to me, and hear me; I am restless in my complaint, and moan noisily, ⁽³⁾ Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked; For they bring down trouble upon me, And in wrath they hate me. ⁽⁴⁾ My heart is severely pained within me, And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

⁽⁵⁾ Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me, And horror has overwhelmed me. ⁽⁶⁾ So I said, 'Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. ⁽⁷⁾ Indeed, I would wander far off, And remain in the wilderness. Selah ⁽⁸⁾ I would hasten my escape From the windy storm and tempest.'

2 Samuel Chapter 1

⁽¹⁾ Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag, ⁽²⁾ on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul's camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself. ⁽³⁾ And David said to him, 'Where have you come from?' So he said to him, 'I have escaped from the camp of Israel.' ⁽⁴⁾ Then David said to him, 'How did the matter go? Please tell me.' And he answered, 'The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.'

⁽⁵⁾ So David said to the young man who told him, 'How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?' ⁽⁶⁾ Then the young man who told him said, 'As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him. ⁽⁷⁾ Now when he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I answered, 'Here I am.' ⁽⁸⁾ And he said to me, 'Who are you?' So I answered him, 'I am an Amalekite.'

⁽⁹⁾ He said to me again, 'Please stand over me and kill me, for anguish has come upon me, but my life still remains in me.' ⁽¹⁰⁾ So I stood over him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.' ⁽¹¹⁾ Therefore David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. ⁽¹²⁾ And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the LORD and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

⁽¹³⁾ Then David said to the young man who told him, 'Where are you from?' And he answered, 'I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite.' ⁽¹⁴⁾ So David said to him, 'How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the LORD's anointed?' ⁽¹⁵⁾ Then David called one of the young men and said, 'Go near, and execute him!' And he struck him so that he died. ⁽¹⁶⁾ So David said to him, 'Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I have killed the LORD's anointed.' '

Acts Chapter 15

⁽²²⁾ Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren. ⁽²³⁾ They wrote this letter by them: The apostles, the elders, and the brethren, To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings. ⁽²⁴⁾ Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, 'You must be circumcised and keep the law' -- to whom we gave no such commandment -- ⁽²⁵⁾ it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

⁽²⁶⁾ men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁽²⁷⁾ We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. ⁽²⁸⁾ For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: ⁽²⁹⁾ that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.

⁽³⁰⁾ So when they were sent off, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter. ⁽³¹⁾ When they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement. ⁽³²⁾ Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words. ⁽³³⁾ And after they had stayed there for a time, they were sent back with greetings from the brethren to the apostles.

Mark Chapter 6

⁽¹⁾ Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. ⁽²⁾ And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, 'Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! ⁽³⁾ Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?' And they were offended at Him. ⁽⁴⁾ But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.'

⁽⁵⁾ Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. ⁽⁶⁾ And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching. ⁽⁷⁾ And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. ⁽⁸⁾ He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff -- no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts --

⁽⁹⁾ but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics. ⁽¹⁰⁾ Also He said to them, 'In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. ⁽¹¹⁾ And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!' ⁽¹²⁾ So they went out and preached that people should repent.

⁽¹³⁾ And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. A Prayer for Mission: Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.
