Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

ⓘ 'Venite' is Latin for 'O Come,' the opening word of Psalm 95: Venite exultemus Domino ('O Come, let us sing to the LORD').

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 119

⁽¹⁴⁵⁾ I cry out with my whole heart; Hear me, O LORD! I will keep Your statutes.⁽¹⁴⁶⁾ I cry out to You; Save me, and I will keep Your testimonies.⁽¹⁴⁷⁾ I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word.⁽¹⁴⁸⁾ My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.

⁽¹⁴⁹⁾ Hear my voice according to Your lovingkindness; O LORD, revive me according to Your justice.⁽¹⁵⁰⁾ They draw near who follow after wickedness; They are far from Your law.⁽¹⁵¹⁾ You are near, O LORD, And all Your commandments are truth.⁽¹⁵²⁾ Concerning Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever.

1 Samuel Chapter 12

⁽¹⁾ Now Samuel said to all Israel: 'Indeed I have heeded your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.⁽²⁾ And now here is the king, walking before you; and I am old and grayheaded, and look, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my childhood to this day.⁽³⁾ Here I am. Witness against me before the LORD and before His anointed: Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I received any bribe with which to blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.'⁽⁴⁾ And they said, 'You have not cheated us or oppressed us, nor have you taken anything from any man's hand.'

⁽⁵⁾ Then he said to them, 'The LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand.' And they answered, 'He is witness.'⁽⁶⁾ Then Samuel said to the people, 'It is the LORD who raised up Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up from the land of Egypt.⁽¹⁶⁾ Now therefore, stand and see this great thing which the LORD will do before your eyes:⁽¹⁷⁾ Is today not the wheat harvest? I will call to the LORD, and He will send thunder and rain, that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking a king for yourselves.'⁽¹⁸⁾ So Samuel called to the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.⁽¹⁹⁾ And all the people said to Samuel, 'Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking a king for ourselves.'

⁽²⁰⁾ Then Samuel said to the people, 'Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.⁽²¹⁾ And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.⁽²²⁾ For the LORD will not forsake His people, for His great name's sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you His people.⁽²³⁾ Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.

⁽²⁴⁾ Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.⁽²⁵⁾ But if you still do wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your king.'

Acts Chapter 8

⁽¹⁴⁾ Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,⁽¹⁵⁾ who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.⁽¹⁶⁾ For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.⁽¹⁷⁾ Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

⁽¹⁸⁾ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,⁽¹⁹⁾ saying, 'Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.'⁽²⁰⁾ But Peter said to him, 'Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!⁽²¹⁾ You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.

⁽²²⁾ Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.⁽²³⁾ For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.'⁽²⁴⁾ Then Simon answered and said, 'Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.'⁽²⁵⁾ So when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

Luke Chapter 23

⁽¹⁾ Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate.⁽²⁾ And they began to accuse Him, saying, 'We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.'⁽³⁾ Then Pilate asked Him, saying, 'Are You the King of the Jews?' He answered him and said, 'It is as you say.'⁽⁴⁾ So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, 'I find no fault in this Man.'

⁽⁵⁾ But they were the more fierce, saying, 'He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.'⁽⁶⁾ When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean.⁽⁷⁾ And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.⁽⁸⁾ Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

⁽⁹⁾ Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing.⁽¹⁰⁾ And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.⁽¹¹⁾ Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.⁽¹²⁾ That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.

Glory to God in the highest,

Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,

have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission: Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.

Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, and, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages.
