Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 107

⁽³³⁾ He turns rivers into a wilderness, And the watersprings into dry ground; ⁽³⁴⁾ A fruitful land into barrenness, For the wickedness of those who dwell in it. ⁽³⁵⁾ He turns a wilderness into pools of water, And dry land into watersprings. ⁽³⁶⁾ There He makes the hungry dwell, That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,

⁽³⁷⁾ And sow fields and plant vineyards, That they may yield a fruitful harvest. ⁽³⁸⁾ He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly; And He does not let their cattle decrease. ⁽³⁹⁾ When they are diminished and brought low Through oppression, affliction and sorrow, ⁽⁴⁰⁾ He pours contempt on princes, And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way;

Psalm 108

⁽¹⁾ O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. ⁽²⁾ Awake, lute and harp! 1 Samuel Chapter 9

⁽¹⁵⁾ Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear the day before Saul came, saying, ⁽¹⁶⁾ Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over My people Israel, that he may save My people from the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to me.' ⁽¹⁷⁾ And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said to him, 'There he is, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall reign over My people.' ⁽¹⁸⁾ Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, 'Please tell me, where is the seer's house?'

⁽¹⁹⁾ And Samuel answered Saul and said, 'I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and tomorrow I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart. ⁽²⁰⁾ But as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not be anxious about them, for they have been found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on you and on all your father's house?' ⁽²¹⁾ And Saul answered and said, 'Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak like this to me?' ⁽²²⁾ Now Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the hall, and had them sit in the place of honor among those who were invited; there were about thirty persons.

⁽²³⁾ And Samuel said to the cook, 'Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, 'Set it apart.' ' ⁽²⁴⁾ So the cook took up the thigh with its upper part and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, 'Here it is, what was kept back. It was set apart for you. Eat; for until this time it has been kept for you, since I said I invited the people.' So Saul ate with Samuel that day. ⁽²⁵⁾ When they had come down from the high place into the city, Samuel spoke with Saul on the top of the house. ⁽²⁶⁾ They arose early; and it was about the dawning of the day that Samuel called to Saul on the top of the house, saying, 'Get up, that I may send you on your way.' And Saul arose, and both of them went outside, he and Samuel.

⁽²⁷⁾ As they were going down to the outskirts of the city, Samuel said to Saul, 'Tell the servant to go on ahead of us.' And he went on. 'But you stand here awhile, that I may announce to you the word of God.' ⁽¹⁾ Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: 'Is it not because the LORD has anointed you commander over His inheritance?

Acts Chapter 7

⁽³⁰⁾ And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai. ⁽³¹⁾ When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight; and as he drew near to observe, the voice of the Lord came to him, ⁽³²⁾ saying, 'I am the God of your fathers -- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses trembled and dared not look. ⁽³³⁾ Then the LORD said to him, 'Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

⁽³⁴⁾ I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.' ' ⁽³⁵⁾ This Moses whom they rejected, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the one God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush. ⁽³⁶⁾ He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ⁽³⁷⁾ This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, 'The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear.'

⁽³⁸⁾ This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us, ⁽³⁹⁾ whom our fathers would not obey, but rejected. And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt, ⁽⁴⁰⁾ saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' ⁽⁴¹⁾ And they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifices to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

⁽⁴²⁾ Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets: 'Did you offer Me slaughtered animals and sacrifices during forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? ⁽⁴³⁾ You also took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of your god Remphan, Images which you made to worship; And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.'

Luke Chapter 22

⁽³⁹⁾ Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ When He came to the place, He said to them, 'Pray that you may not enter into temptation.' ⁽⁴¹⁾ And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and prayed, ⁽⁴²⁾ saying, 'Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.'

⁽⁴³⁾ Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. ⁽⁴⁴⁾ And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. ⁽⁴⁵⁾ When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. ⁽⁴⁶⁾ Then He said to them, 'Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.'

⁽⁴⁷⁾ And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. ⁽⁴⁸⁾ But Jesus said to him, 'Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?' ⁽⁴⁹⁾ When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, 'Lord, shall we strike with the sword?' ⁽⁵⁰⁾ And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

⁽⁵¹⁾ But Jesus answered and said, 'Permit even this.' And He touched his ear and healed him.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.

O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
