Morning Prayer

Lent
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us; but if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8, 9

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 40

Psalm 54

Deuteronomy Chapter 10

⁽¹²⁾ And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, ⁽¹³⁾ and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good? ⁽¹⁴⁾ Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the LORD your God, also the earth with all that is in it. ⁽¹⁵⁾ The LORD delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day.

⁽¹⁶⁾ Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. ⁽¹⁷⁾ For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. ⁽¹⁸⁾ He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing. ⁽¹⁹⁾ Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Hebrews Chapter 4

⁽¹¹⁾ Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. ⁽¹²⁾ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ⁽¹³⁾ And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

⁽¹⁵⁾ For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. ⁽¹⁶⁾ Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

John Chapter 3

⁽²⁶⁾ And they came to John and said to him, 'Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified -- behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!' ⁽²⁷⁾ John answered and said, 'A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. ⁽²⁸⁾ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.' ⁽²⁹⁾ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.

⁽³⁰⁾ He must increase, but I must decrease. ⁽³¹⁾ He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. ⁽³²⁾ And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. ⁽³³⁾ He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.

⁽³⁴⁾ For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. ⁽³⁵⁾ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. ⁽³⁶⁾ He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.'

The Second Song of Isaiah      Isaiah 55:6 to 11

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found;
call upon him when he draws near.

O Lord and Ruler of the hosts of heaven,
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
and of all their righteous offspring:
You made the heavens and the earth,
with all their vast array.
All things quake with fear at your presence;
they tremble because of your power.
But your merciful promise is beyond all measure;
it surpasses all that our minds can fathom.
O Lord, you are full of compassion,
long-suffering, and abounding in mercy.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
