Epiphany
I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6b

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 146

⁽¹⁾ Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! ⁽²⁾ While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. ⁽³⁾ Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁽⁴⁾ His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.

⁽⁵⁾ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, ⁽⁶⁾ Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, ⁽⁷⁾ Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. Psalm 147

⁽¹⁾ Praise the LORD! Isaiah Chapter 60

⁽¹⁾ Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. ⁽²⁾ For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. ⁽³⁾ The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising. ⁽⁴⁾ Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; Your sons shall come from afar, And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.

2 Timothy Chapter 2

⁽¹⁴⁾ Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. ⁽¹⁵⁾ Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ⁽¹⁶⁾ But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. ⁽¹⁷⁾ And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort,

⁽¹⁸⁾ who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. ⁽¹⁹⁾ Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: 'The Lord knows those who are His,' and, 'Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.' ⁽²⁰⁾ But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. ⁽²¹⁾ Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

⁽²²⁾ Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. ⁽²³⁾ But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. ⁽²⁴⁾ And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, ⁽²⁵⁾ in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,

⁽²⁶⁾ and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Mark Chapter 10

⁽¹⁷⁾ Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, 'Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?' ⁽¹⁸⁾ So Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. ⁽¹⁹⁾ You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not murder,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and your mother.' ' ⁽²⁰⁾ And he answered and said to Him, 'Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.'

⁽²¹⁾ Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, 'One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.' ⁽²²⁾ But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. ⁽²³⁾ Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, 'How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!' ⁽²⁴⁾ And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, 'Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!

⁽²⁵⁾ It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.' ⁽²⁶⁾ And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, 'Who then can be saved?' ⁽²⁷⁾ But Jesus looked at them and said, 'With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.' ⁽²⁸⁾ Then Peter began to say to Him, 'See, we have left all and followed You.'

⁽²⁹⁾ So Jesus answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, ⁽³⁰⁾ who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time -- houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions -- and in the age to come, eternal life. ⁽³¹⁾ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.

Seasonal Collect:  Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany
Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
