Epiphany
I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6b

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 80

⁽¹⁾ Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! ⁽²⁾ Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, Stir up Your strength, And come and save us! ⁽³⁾ Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved! ⁽⁴⁾ O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry Against the prayer of Your people?

Isaiah Chapter 58

⁽¹⁾ Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins. ⁽²⁾ Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God. ⁽³⁾ Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?' 'In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers. ⁽⁴⁾ Indeed you fast for strife and debate, And to strike with the fist of wickedness. You will not fast as you do this day, To make your voice heard on high.

⁽⁵⁾ Is it a fast that I have chosen, A day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, And to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, And an acceptable day to the LORD? ⁽⁶⁾ Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? ⁽⁷⁾ Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁽⁸⁾ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.

⁽⁹⁾ Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.' Galatians Chapter 6

⁽¹¹⁾ See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! ⁽¹²⁾ As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. ⁽¹³⁾ For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. ⁽¹⁴⁾ But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Mark Chapter 9

⁽³⁰⁾ Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it. ⁽³¹⁾ For He taught His disciples and said to them, 'The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.' ⁽³²⁾ But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him. ⁽³³⁾ Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, 'What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?'

⁽³⁴⁾ But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. ⁽³⁵⁾ And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, 'If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.' ⁽³⁶⁾ Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, ⁽³⁷⁾ Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.'

⁽³⁸⁾ Now John answered Him, saying, 'Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.' ⁽³⁹⁾ But Jesus said, 'Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ For he who is not against us is on our side. ⁽⁴¹⁾ For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
