Ordinary Time
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 131

⁽¹⁾ LORD, my heart is not haughty, Nor my eyes lofty. Psalm 132

Psalm 133

Job Chapter 1

⁽¹⁾ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. ⁽²⁾ And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. ⁽³⁾ Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East. ⁽⁴⁾ And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

⁽⁵⁾ So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, 'It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.' Thus Job did regularly. ⁽⁶⁾ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. ⁽⁷⁾ And the LORD said to Satan, 'From where do you come?' So Satan answered the LORD and said, 'From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.' ⁽⁸⁾ Then the LORD said to Satan, 'Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?'

⁽⁹⁾ So Satan answered the LORD and said, 'Does Job fear God for nothing? ⁽¹⁰⁾ Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. ⁽¹¹⁾ But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!' ⁽¹²⁾ And the LORD said to Satan, 'Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.' So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

⁽¹³⁾ Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house; ⁽¹⁴⁾ and a messenger came to Job and said, 'The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, ⁽¹⁵⁾ when the Sabeans raided them and took them away -- indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!' ⁽¹⁶⁾ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!'

⁽¹⁷⁾ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!' ⁽¹⁸⁾ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, ⁽¹⁹⁾ and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!' ⁽²⁰⁾ Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

⁽²¹⁾ And he said: 'Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.' ⁽²²⁾ In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

Acts Chapter 8

⁽²⁶⁾ Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, 'Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.' This is desert. ⁽²⁷⁾ So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, ⁽²⁸⁾ was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. ⁽²⁹⁾ Then the Spirit said to Philip, 'Go near and overtake this chariot.'

⁽³⁰⁾ So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, 'Do you understand what you are reading?' ⁽³¹⁾ And he said, 'How can I, unless someone guides me?' And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. ⁽³²⁾ The place in the Scripture which he read was this: 'He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. ⁽³³⁾ In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.'

⁽³⁴⁾ So the eunuch answered Philip and said, 'I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?' ⁽³⁵⁾ Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. ⁽³⁶⁾ Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, 'See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?' ⁽³⁷⁾ Then Philip said, 'If you believe with all your heart, you may.' And he answered and said, 'I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.'

⁽³⁸⁾ So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. ⁽³⁹⁾ Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.

John Chapter 6

⁽¹⁶⁾ Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, ⁽¹⁷⁾ got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. ⁽¹⁸⁾ Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. ⁽¹⁹⁾ So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid.

⁽²⁰⁾ But He said to them, 'It is I; do not be afraid.' ⁽²¹⁾ Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going. ⁽²²⁾ On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone -- ⁽²³⁾ however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks --

⁽²⁴⁾ when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. ⁽²⁵⁾ And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, 'Rabbi, when did You come here?' ⁽²⁶⁾ Jesus answered them and said, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. ⁽²⁷⁾ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

Almighty God, you have given your only Son to be for us a sacrifice for sin, and also an example of godly life: Give us grace to receive thankfully the fruits of his redeeming work, and to follow daily in the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
