Morning Prayer

Easter Week
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 145

⁽¹⁾ I will extol You, my God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever. ⁽²⁾ Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. ⁽³⁾ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable. ⁽⁴⁾ One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.

Exodus Chapter 13

⁽¹⁷⁾ Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, 'Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.' ⁽¹⁸⁾ So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. ⁽²¹⁾ And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. ⁽²²⁾ He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people. ⁽¹⁾ Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: ⁽²⁾ Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn and camp before Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baal Zephon; you shall camp before it by the sea. ⁽³⁾ For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.' ⁽⁴⁾ Then I will harden Pharaoh's heart, so that he will pursue them; and I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD.' 2 Corinthians Chapter 4

⁽¹⁶⁾ Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. ⁽¹⁷⁾ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, ⁽¹⁸⁾ while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. ⁽¹⁾ For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. ⁽²⁾ For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, ⁽³⁾ if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. ⁽⁴⁾ For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.

⁽⁵⁾ Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. ⁽⁶⁾ So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. ⁽⁷⁾ For we walk by faith, not by sight. ⁽⁸⁾ We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

⁽⁹⁾ Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. ⁽¹⁰⁾ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Mark Chapter 12

⁽¹⁸⁾ Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying: ⁽¹⁹⁾ Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. ⁽²⁰⁾ Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife; and dying, he left no offspring. ⁽²¹⁾ And the second took her, and he died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise.

⁽²²⁾ So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also. ⁽²³⁾ Therefore, in the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife.' ⁽²⁴⁾ Jesus answered and said to them, 'Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God? ⁽²⁵⁾ For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

⁽²⁶⁾ But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? ⁽²⁷⁾ He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Seasonal Collect:  Saturday in Easter Week
We thank you, heavenly Father, that you have delivered us from the dominion of sin and death and brought us into the kingdom of your Son; and we pray that, as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his love he may raise us to eternal joys; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission: Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.
