Epiphany
I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6b

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 146

⁽¹⁾ Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! ⁽²⁾ While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. ⁽³⁾ Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁽⁴⁾ His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.

⁽⁵⁾ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, ⁽⁶⁾ Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, ⁽⁷⁾ Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. Psalm 147

⁽¹⁾ Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful. ⁽²⁾ The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. ⁽³⁾ He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. ⁽⁴⁾ He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.

Genesis Chapter 27

⁽³⁰⁾ Now it happened, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. ⁽³¹⁾ He also had made savory food, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, 'Let my father arise and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me.' ⁽³²⁾ And his father Isaac said to him, 'Who are you?' So he said, 'I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.' ⁽³³⁾ Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, 'Who? Where is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it before you came, and I have blessed him -- and indeed he shall be blessed.'

⁽³⁴⁾ When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, 'Bless me -- me also, O my father!' ⁽³⁵⁾ But he said, 'Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.' ⁽³⁶⁾ And Esau said, 'Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!' And he said, 'Have you not reserved a blessing for me?' ⁽³⁷⁾ Then Isaac answered and said to Esau, 'Indeed I have made him your master, and all his brethren I have given to him as servants; with grain and wine I have sustained him. What shall I do now for you, my son?'

⁽³⁸⁾ And Esau said to his father, 'Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me -- me also, O my father!' And Esau lifted up his voice and wept. ⁽³⁹⁾ Then Isaac his father answered and said to him:'Behold, your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, And of the dew of heaven from above. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ By your sword you shall live, And you shall serve your brother; And it shall come to pass, when you become restless, That you shall break his yoke from your neck.' ⁽⁴¹⁾ So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, 'The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.'

So she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, 'Surely your brother Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you. ⁽⁴³⁾ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban in Haran. ⁽⁴⁴⁾ And stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away, ⁽⁴⁵⁾ until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?'

Romans Chapter 12

⁽⁹⁾ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. ⁽¹⁰⁾ Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; ⁽¹¹⁾ not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; ⁽¹²⁾ rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;

⁽¹³⁾ distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. ⁽¹⁵⁾ Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. ⁽¹⁶⁾ Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

⁽¹⁷⁾ Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. ⁽¹⁸⁾ If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. ⁽¹⁹⁾ Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,' says the Lord. ⁽²⁰⁾ Therefore 'If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.'

John Chapter 8

⁽²¹⁾ Then Jesus said to them again, 'I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.' ⁽²²⁾ So the Jews said, 'Will He kill Himself, because He says, 'Where I go you cannot come'?' ⁽²³⁾ And He said to them, 'You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. ⁽²⁴⁾ Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.'

⁽²⁵⁾ Then they said to Him, 'Who are You?' And Jesus said to them, 'Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. ⁽²⁶⁾ I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.' ⁽²⁷⁾ They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father. ⁽²⁸⁾ Then Jesus said to them, 'When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

⁽²⁹⁾ And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.' ⁽³⁰⁾ As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. ⁽³¹⁾ Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. ⁽³²⁾ And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Seasonal Collect:  Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany
Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins, and give us the liberty of that abundant life which you have made known to us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
