Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 72

⁽¹⁾ Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king's Son.⁽²⁾ He will judge Your people with righteousness, And Your poor with justice.⁽³⁾ The mountains will bring peace to the people, And the little hills, by righteousness.⁽⁴⁾ He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor.

⁽⁵⁾ They shall fear You As long as the sun and moon endure, Throughout all generations.⁽⁶⁾ He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water the earth.⁽⁷⁾ In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more.⁽⁸⁾ He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.

⁽⁹⁾ Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him, And His enemies will lick the dust.⁽¹⁰⁾ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles Will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba Will offer gifts.⁽¹¹⁾ Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him.⁽¹²⁾ For He will deliver the needy when he cries, The poor also, and him who has no helper.

Genesis Chapter 22

⁽¹⁾ Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, 'Abraham!' And he said, 'Here I am.'⁽²⁾ Then He said, 'Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.'⁽³⁾ So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.⁽⁴⁾ Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off.

⁽⁵⁾ And Abraham said to his young men, 'Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.'⁽⁶⁾ So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together.⁽⁷⁾ But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, 'My father!' And he said, 'Here I am, my son.' Then he said, 'Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?'⁽⁸⁾ And Abraham said, 'My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.' So the two of them went together.

⁽⁹⁾ Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.⁽¹⁰⁾ And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.⁽¹¹⁾ But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' So he said, 'Here I am.'⁽¹²⁾ And He said, 'Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.'

⁽¹³⁾ Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.⁽¹⁴⁾ And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, 'In the Mount of The LORD it shall be provided.'⁽¹⁵⁾ Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time out of heaven,⁽¹⁶⁾ and said: 'By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son --

⁽¹⁷⁾ blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.⁽¹⁸⁾ In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.'

Hebrews Chapter 11

⁽²³⁾ By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king's command.⁽²⁴⁾ By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,⁽²⁵⁾ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,⁽²⁶⁾ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

⁽²⁷⁾ By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.⁽²⁸⁾ By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.⁽²⁹⁾ By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.⁽³⁰⁾ By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.

John Chapter 6

⁽⁵²⁾ The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, 'How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?'⁽⁵³⁾ Then Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.⁽⁵⁴⁾ Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.⁽⁵⁵⁾ For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.

⁽⁵⁶⁾ He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.⁽⁵⁷⁾ As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.⁽⁵⁸⁾ This is the bread which came down from heaven -- not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.'⁽⁵⁹⁾ These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.

Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,

have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,

Seasonal Collect: Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany
Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission: Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, and, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
