Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 37

⁽¹⁾ Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. ⁽²⁾ For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. ⁽³⁾ Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. ⁽⁴⁾ Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

1 Samuel Chapter 20

⁽²⁴⁾ Then David hid in the field. And when the New Moon had come, the king sat down to eat the feast. ⁽²⁵⁾ Now the king sat on his seat, as at other times, on a seat by the wall. And Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, but David's place was empty. ⁽²⁶⁾ Nevertheless Saul did not say anything that day, for he thought, 'Something has happened to him; he is unclean, surely he is unclean.' ⁽²⁷⁾ And it happened the next day, the second day of the month, that David's place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, 'Why has the son of Jesse not come to eat, either yesterday or today?'

⁽²⁸⁾ So Jonathan answered Saul, 'David earnestly asked permission of me to go to Bethlehem. ⁽²⁹⁾ And he said, 'Please let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city, and my brother has commanded me to be there. And now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me get away and see my brothers.' Therefore he has not come to the king's table.' ⁽³⁰⁾ Then Saul's anger was aroused against Jonathan, and he said to him, 'You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ⁽³¹⁾ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore, send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.'

⁽³²⁾ And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, 'Why should he be killed? What has he done?' ⁽³³⁾ Then Saul cast a spear at him to kill him, by which Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to kill David. ⁽³⁴⁾ So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month, for he was grieved for David, because his father had treated him shamefully. ⁽³⁵⁾ And so it was, in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad was with him.

⁽³⁶⁾ Then he said to his lad, 'Now run, find the arrows which I shoot.' As the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. ⁽³⁷⁾ When the lad had come to the place where the arrow was which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried out after the lad and said, 'Is not the arrow beyond you?' ⁽³⁸⁾ And Jonathan cried out after the lad, 'Make haste, hurry, do not delay!' So Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and came back to his master. ⁽³⁹⁾ But the lad did not know anything. Only Jonathan and David knew of the matter.

⁽⁴⁰⁾ Then Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, 'Go, carry them to the city.' ⁽⁴¹⁾ As soon as the lad had gone, David arose from a place toward the south, fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so. ⁽⁴²⁾ Then Jonathan said to David, 'Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, 'May the LORD be between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants, forever.' ' So he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.

Acts Chapter 13

⁽¹⁾ Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. ⁽²⁾ As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, 'Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' ⁽³⁾ Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. ⁽⁴⁾ So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁽⁵⁾ And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant. ⁽⁶⁾ Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, ⁽⁷⁾ who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. ⁽⁸⁾ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

⁽⁹⁾ Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him ⁽¹⁰⁾ and said, 'O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? ⁽¹¹⁾ And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.' And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. ⁽¹²⁾ Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

Mark Chapter 2

⁽²³⁾ Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. ⁽²⁴⁾ And the Pharisees said to Him, 'Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?' ⁽²⁵⁾ But He said to them, 'Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: ⁽²⁶⁾ how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat, except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?'

⁽²⁷⁾ And He said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. ⁽²⁸⁾ Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.' ⁽¹⁾ And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. ⁽²⁾ So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. ⁽³⁾ And He said to the man who had the withered hand, 'Step forward.' ⁽⁴⁾ Then He said to them, 'Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?' But they kept silent.

⁽⁵⁾ And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. ⁽⁶⁾ Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
