Morning Prayer

Lent
I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' Luke 15:18, 19

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 42

When shall I come and appear before God? ⁽³⁾ My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, 'Where is your God?' ⁽⁴⁾ When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.

Jeremiah Chapter 10

Romans Chapter 5

⁽¹²⁾ Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned -- ⁽¹³⁾ (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. ⁽¹⁵⁾ But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.

⁽¹⁶⁾ And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. ⁽¹⁷⁾ For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) ⁽¹⁸⁾ Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. ⁽¹⁹⁾ For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous.

⁽²⁰⁾ Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, ⁽²¹⁾ so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John Chapter 8

⁽²¹⁾ Then Jesus said to them again, 'I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.' ⁽²²⁾ So the Jews said, 'Will He kill Himself, because He says, 'Where I go you cannot come'?' ⁽²³⁾ And He said to them, 'You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. ⁽²⁴⁾ Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.'

⁽²⁵⁾ Then they said to Him, 'Who are You?' And Jesus said to them, 'Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. ⁽²⁶⁾ I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.' ⁽²⁷⁾ They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father. ⁽²⁸⁾ Then Jesus said to them, 'When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

⁽²⁹⁾ And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.' ⁽³⁰⁾ As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. ⁽³¹⁾ Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. ⁽³²⁾ And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,

Seasonal Collect:  Third Sunday in Lent
Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
