Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 137

Psalm 144

1 Samuel Chapter 14

⁽¹⁶⁾ Now the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and there was the multitude, melting away; and they went here and there. ⁽¹⁷⁾ Then Saul said to the people who were with him, 'Now call the roll and see who has gone from us.' And when they had called the roll, surprisingly, Jonathan and his armorbearer were not there. ⁽¹⁸⁾ And Saul said to Ahijah, 'Bring the ark of God here' (for at that time the ark of God was with the children of Israel). ⁽¹⁹⁾ Now it happened, while Saul talked to the priest, that the noise which was in the camp of the Philistines continued to increase; so Saul said to the priest, 'Withdraw your hand.'

⁽²⁰⁾ Then Saul and all the people who were with him assembled, and they went to the battle; and indeed every man's sword was against his neighbor, and there was very great confusion. ⁽²¹⁾ Moreover the Hebrews who were with the Philistines before that time, who went up with them into the camp from the surrounding country, they also joined the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan. ⁽²²⁾ Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden in the mountains of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, they also followed hard after them in the battle. ⁽²³⁾ So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle shifted to Beth Aven.

⁽²⁴⁾ And the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had placed the people under oath, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats any food until evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies.' So none of the people tasted food. ⁽²⁵⁾ Now all the people of the land came to a forest; and there was honey on the ground. ⁽²⁶⁾ And when the people had come into the woods, there was the honey, dripping; but no one put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath. ⁽²⁷⁾ But Jonathan had not heard his father charge the people with the oath; therefore he stretched out the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his countenance brightened.

⁽²⁸⁾ Then one of the people said, 'Your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats food this day.' ' And the people were faint. ⁽²⁹⁾ But Jonathan said, 'My father has troubled the land. Look now, how my countenance has brightened because I tasted a little of this honey. ⁽³⁰⁾ How much better if the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found! For now would there not have been a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?'

Acts Chapter 9

⁽¹⁰⁾ Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, 'Ananias.' And he said, 'Here I am, Lord.' ⁽¹¹⁾ So the Lord said to him, 'Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. ⁽¹²⁾ And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.' ⁽¹³⁾ Then Ananias answered, 'Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem.

⁽¹⁴⁾ And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.' ⁽¹⁵⁾ But the Lord said to him, 'Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. ⁽¹⁶⁾ For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name's sake.' ⁽¹⁷⁾ And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, 'Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.'

⁽¹⁸⁾ Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. ⁽¹⁹⁾ So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus.

Luke Chapter 23

⁽³²⁾ There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. ⁽³³⁾ And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. ⁽³⁴⁾ Then Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.' And they divided His garments and cast lots. ⁽³⁵⁾ And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, 'He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.'

⁽³⁶⁾ The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, ⁽³⁷⁾ and saying, 'If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.' ⁽³⁸⁾ And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ⁽³⁹⁾ Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, 'If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.'

⁽⁴⁰⁾ But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, 'Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? ⁽⁴¹⁾ And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.' ⁽⁴²⁾ Then he said to Jesus, 'Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.' ⁽⁴³⁾ And Jesus said to him, 'Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
