Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

ⓘ 'Venite' is Latin for 'O Come,' the opening word of Psalm 95: Venite exultemus Domino ('O Come, let us sing to the LORD').

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 118

⁽¹⁾ Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.⁽²⁾ Let Israel now say, 'His mercy endures forever.'⁽³⁾ Let the house of Aaron now say, 'His mercy endures forever.'⁽⁴⁾ Let those who fear the LORD now say, 'His mercy endures forever.'

⁽⁵⁾ I called on the LORD in distress; The LORD answered me and set me in a broad place.⁽⁶⁾ The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?⁽⁷⁾ The LORD is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.⁽⁸⁾ It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man.

Isaiah Chapter 11

⁽¹⁾ There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.⁽²⁾ The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.⁽³⁾ His delight is in the fear of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;⁽⁴⁾ But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

⁽⁵⁾ Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.⁽⁶⁾ The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them.⁽⁷⁾ The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.⁽⁸⁾ The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den.

1 Corinthians Chapter 2

⁽¹⁾ And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God.⁽²⁾ For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.⁽³⁾ I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.⁽⁴⁾ And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

⁽⁵⁾ that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.⁽⁶⁾ However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.⁽⁷⁾ But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,⁽⁸⁾ which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

⁽⁹⁾ But as it is written: 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'⁽¹⁰⁾ But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.⁽¹¹⁾ For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.⁽¹²⁾ Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

⁽¹³⁾ These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

John Chapter 14

⁽²¹⁾ He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.'⁽²²⁾ Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, 'Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?'⁽²³⁾ Jesus answered and said to him, 'If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.⁽²⁴⁾ He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

⁽²⁵⁾ These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.⁽²⁶⁾ But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.⁽²⁷⁾ Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.⁽²⁸⁾ You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I.

The Song of Zechariah Luke 1: 68 to 79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham,
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

You are God
You are God: we praise you;
You are the Lord; we acclaim you;
You are the eternal Father:
All creation worships you.
To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,
Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,

Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, and, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages.
