Ordinary Time
The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. John 4:23

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

ⓘ 'Venite' is Latin for 'O Come,' the opening word of Psalm 95: Venite exultemus Domino ('O Come, let us sing to the LORD').

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 93

⁽¹⁾ The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.⁽²⁾ Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.⁽³⁾ The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves.⁽⁴⁾ The LORD on high is mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea.

⁽⁵⁾ Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Psalm 96

⁽¹⁾ Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! Sing to the LORD, all the earth.⁽²⁾ Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.⁽³⁾ Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.⁽⁴⁾ For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.

Ecclesiasticus Chapter 51

⁽¹³⁾ When I was still young, before I started out on my travels, I boldly prayed for Wisdom.⁽¹⁴⁾ I went to the Temple and asked for her, and I will look for her as long as I live.⁽¹⁵⁾ From my blossoming youth to my ripe old age she has been my delight. I have followed directly in her path ever since I was young.⁽¹⁶⁾ I received Wisdom as soon as I began listening for her, and I have been rewarded with great knowledge.

⁽¹⁷⁾ I have always been a learner and am grateful to everyone who has been my teacher.⁽¹⁸⁾ I was determined to live wisely and was devoted to the cause of goodness. I have no regrets.⁽¹⁹⁾ I fought for Wisdom and was strict in my conduct. When I prayed, I sadly confessed how far short of Wisdom I fell.⁽²⁰⁾ But I was determined to have her, and I found her by keeping myself free from sin. I have grown in Wisdom since first I found her, and I will never be without her.

⁽²¹⁾ Because I was driven by the desire to find her, I have been richly rewarded.⁽²²⁾ The Lord gave me a gift for words, and I have used it in his praise.

1 Corinthians Chapter 14

⁽¹⁾ Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.⁽²⁾ For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.⁽³⁾ But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.⁽⁴⁾ He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

⁽⁵⁾ I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.⁽⁶⁾ But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?⁽⁷⁾ Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played?⁽⁸⁾ For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for battle?

⁽⁹⁾ So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.⁽¹⁰⁾ There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without significance.⁽¹¹⁾ Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me.⁽¹²⁾ Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.

Matthew Chapter 20

⁽¹⁾ For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.⁽²⁾ Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.⁽³⁾ And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,⁽⁴⁾ and said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went.

⁽⁵⁾ Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.⁽⁶⁾ And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, 'Why have you been standing here idle all day?'⁽⁷⁾ They said to him, 'Because no one hired us.' He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.'⁽⁸⁾ So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, 'Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.'

⁽⁹⁾ And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.⁽¹⁰⁾ But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius.⁽¹¹⁾ And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner,⁽¹²⁾ saying, 'These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.'

⁽¹³⁾ But he answered one of them and said, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?⁽¹⁴⁾ Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.⁽¹⁵⁾ Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?'⁽¹⁶⁾ So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.'

The Song of Zechariah Luke 1: 68 to 79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham,
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God

You are God
You are God: we praise you;
You are the Lord; we acclaim you;

All creation worships you.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, and, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages.
