Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 18

⁽¹⁾ I will love You, O LORD, my strength. ⁽²⁾ The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. ⁽³⁾ I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. ⁽⁴⁾ The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.

⁽⁵⁾ The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. ⁽⁶⁾ In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears. ⁽⁷⁾ Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of the hills also quaked and were shaken, Because He was angry. ⁽⁸⁾ Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth; Coals were kindled by it.

Jonah Chapter 3

⁽¹⁾ Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, ⁽²⁾ Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.' ⁽³⁾ So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent. ⁽⁴⁾ And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk. Then he cried out and said, 'Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!'

⁽⁵⁾ So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. ⁽⁶⁾ Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. ⁽⁷⁾ And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water. ⁽⁸⁾ But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.

⁽⁹⁾ Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish? ⁽¹⁰⁾ Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it. ⁽¹⁾ But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. ⁽²⁾ So he prayed to the LORD, and said, 'Ah, LORD, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm. ⁽³⁾ Therefore now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!' ⁽⁴⁾ Then the LORD said, 'Is it right for you to be angry?'

⁽⁵⁾ So Jonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city. There he made himself a shelter and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city. ⁽⁶⁾ And the LORD God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant. ⁽⁷⁾ But as morning dawned the next day God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered. ⁽⁸⁾ And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, 'It is better for me to die than to live.'

⁽⁹⁾ Then God said to Jonah, 'Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?' And he said, 'It is right for me to be angry, even to death!' ⁽¹⁰⁾ But the LORD said, 'You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night. ⁽¹¹⁾ And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left -- and much livestock?'

Acts Chapter 27

⁽²⁷⁾ Now when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors sensed that they were drawing near some land. ⁽²⁸⁾ And they took soundings and found it to be twenty fathoms; and when they had gone a little farther, they took soundings again and found it to be fifteen fathoms. ⁽²⁹⁾ Then, fearing lest we should run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern, and prayed for day to come. ⁽³⁰⁾ And as the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship, when they had let down the skiff into the sea, under pretense of putting out anchors from the prow,

⁽³¹⁾ Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, 'Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.' ⁽³²⁾ Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the skiff and let it fall off. ⁽³³⁾ And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food, saying, 'Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued without food, and eaten nothing. ⁽³⁴⁾ Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you.'

⁽³⁵⁾ And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it he began to eat. ⁽³⁶⁾ Then they were all encouraged, and also took food themselves. ⁽³⁷⁾ And in all we were two hundred and seventy-six persons on the ship. ⁽³⁸⁾ So when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and threw out the wheat into the sea.

⁽³⁹⁾ When it was day, they did not recognize the land; but they observed a bay with a beach, onto which they planned to run the ship if possible. ⁽⁴⁰⁾ And they let go the anchors and left them in the sea, meanwhile loosing the rudder ropes; and they hoisted the mainsail to the wind and made for shore. ⁽⁴¹⁾ But striking a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence of the waves. ⁽⁴²⁾ And the soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim away and escape.

⁽⁴³⁾ But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land, ⁽⁴⁴⁾ and the rest, some on boards and some on parts of the ship. And so it was that they all escaped safely to land.

Luke Chapter 9

⁽¹⁸⁾ And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, 'Who do the crowds say that I am?' ⁽¹⁹⁾ So they answered and said, 'John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.' ⁽²⁰⁾ He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' Peter answered and said, 'The Christ of God.' ⁽²¹⁾ And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one,

⁽²²⁾ saying, 'The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.' ⁽²³⁾ Then He said to them all, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. ⁽²⁴⁾ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. ⁽²⁵⁾ For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

⁽²⁶⁾ For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels. ⁽²⁷⁾ But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
