Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 105

⁽¹⁾ Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!⁽²⁾ Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!⁽³⁾ Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!⁽⁴⁾ Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!

⁽⁵⁾ Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,⁽⁶⁾ O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!⁽⁷⁾ He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.⁽⁸⁾ He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

Hosea Chapter 5

⁽⁸⁾ Blow the ram's horn in Gibeah, The trumpet in Ramah! Cry aloud at Beth Aven, 'Look behind you, O Benjamin!'⁽⁹⁾ Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is sure.⁽¹⁰⁾ The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark; I will pour out my wrath on them like water.⁽¹¹⁾ Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, Because he willingly walked by human precept.

⁽¹²⁾ Therefore I will be to Ephraim like a moth, And to the house of Judah like rottenness.⁽¹³⁾ When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb; Yet he cannot cure you, Nor heal you of your wound.⁽¹⁴⁾ For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, And like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear them and go away; I will take them away, and no one shall rescue.⁽¹⁵⁾ I will return again to My place Till they acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.'

⁽¹⁾ Come, and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up.⁽²⁾ After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight.⁽³⁾ Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth.⁽⁴⁾ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your faithfulness is like a morning cloud, And like the early dew it goes away.

Acts Chapter 21

⁽²⁷⁾ Now when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him,⁽²⁸⁾ crying out, 'Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.'⁽²⁹⁾ (For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)⁽³⁰⁾ And all the city was disturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut.

⁽³¹⁾ Now as they were seeking to kill him, news came to the commander of the garrison that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.⁽³²⁾ He immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. And when they saw the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.⁽³³⁾ Then the commander came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and he asked who he was and what he had done.⁽³⁴⁾ And some among the multitude cried one thing and some another. So when he could not ascertain the truth because of the tumult, he commanded him to be taken into the barracks.

⁽³⁵⁾ When he reached the stairs, he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob.⁽³⁶⁾ For the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, 'Away with him!'

Luke Chapter 6

⁽¹⁾ Now it happened on the second Sabbath after the first that He went through the grainfields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate them, rubbing them in their hands.⁽²⁾ And some of the Pharisees said to them, 'Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?'⁽³⁾ But Jesus answering them said, 'Have you not even read this, what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:⁽⁴⁾ how he went into the house of God, took and ate the showbread, and also gave some to those with him, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?'

⁽⁵⁾ And He said to them, 'The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.'⁽⁶⁾ Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered.⁽⁷⁾ So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him.⁽⁸⁾ But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, 'Arise and stand here.' And he arose and stood.

⁽⁹⁾ Then Jesus said to them, 'I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?'⁽¹⁰⁾ And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.⁽¹¹⁾ But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

I will sing to the Lord, for he is lofty and uplifted;
the horse and its rider has he hurled into the sea.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
