Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Venite

Psalm 95:1 to 7
Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.

Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Lessons

Psalm 72

⁽¹⁾ Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king's Son.⁽²⁾ He will judge Your people with righteousness, And Your poor with justice.⁽³⁾ The mountains will bring peace to the people, And the little hills, by righteousness.⁽⁴⁾ He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor.

⁽⁵⁾ They shall fear You As long as the sun and moon endure, Throughout all generations.⁽⁶⁾ He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water the earth.⁽⁷⁾ In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more.⁽⁸⁾ He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.

⁽⁹⁾ Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him, And His enemies will lick the dust.⁽¹⁰⁾ The kings of Tarshish and of the isles Will bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba Will offer gifts.⁽¹¹⁾ Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; All nations shall serve Him.⁽¹²⁾ For He will deliver the needy when he cries, The poor also, and him who has no helper.

Job Chapter 42

⁽¹⁾ Then Job answered the LORD and said:⁽²⁾ I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.⁽³⁾ You asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.⁽⁴⁾ Listen, please, and let me speak; You said, 'I will question you, and you shall answer Me.'

⁽⁵⁾ I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You.⁽⁶⁾ Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.'⁽⁷⁾ And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, 'My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.⁽⁸⁾ Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.'

⁽⁹⁾ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD commanded them; for the LORD had accepted Job.⁽¹⁰⁾ And the LORD restored Job's losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.⁽¹¹⁾ Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. Each one gave him a piece of silver and each a ring of gold.⁽¹²⁾ Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

⁽¹³⁾ He also had seven sons and three daughters.⁽¹⁴⁾ And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch.⁽¹⁵⁾ In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.⁽¹⁶⁾ After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations.

⁽¹⁷⁾ So Job died, old and full of days.

Acts Chapter 16

⁽¹⁶⁾ Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.⁽¹⁷⁾ This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, 'These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.'⁽¹⁸⁾ And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, 'I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.' And he came out that very hour.⁽¹⁹⁾ But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

⁽²⁰⁾ And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, 'These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city;⁽²¹⁾ and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.'⁽²²⁾ Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.⁽²³⁾ And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.

⁽²⁴⁾ Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

John Chapter 12

⁽²⁰⁾ Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.⁽²¹⁾ Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, 'Sir, we wish to see Jesus.'⁽²²⁾ Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.⁽²³⁾ But Jesus answered them, saying, 'The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.

⁽²⁴⁾ Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.⁽²⁵⁾ He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.⁽²⁶⁾ If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory, and, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages.
