Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 105

⁽¹⁾ Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! ⁽²⁾ Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! ⁽³⁾ Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! ⁽⁴⁾ Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore!

1 Samuel Chapter 8

⁽¹⁾ Now it came to pass when Samuel was old that he made his sons judges over Israel. ⁽²⁾ The name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in Beersheba. ⁽³⁾ But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice. ⁽⁴⁾ Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah,

⁽⁵⁾ and said to him, 'Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.' ⁽⁶⁾ But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, 'Give us a king to judge us.' So Samuel prayed to the LORD. ⁽⁷⁾ And the LORD said to Samuel, 'Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. ⁽⁸⁾ According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day -- with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods -- so they are doing to you also.

⁽⁹⁾ Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.' ⁽¹⁰⁾ So Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who asked him for a king. ⁽¹¹⁾ And he said, 'This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots. ⁽¹²⁾ He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.

⁽¹³⁾ He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. ⁽¹⁴⁾ And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants. ⁽¹⁵⁾ He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants. ⁽¹⁶⁾ And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work.

⁽¹⁷⁾ He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants. ⁽¹⁸⁾ And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the LORD will not hear you in that day.' ⁽¹⁹⁾ Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, 'No, but we will have a king over us, ⁽²⁰⁾ that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.'

⁽²¹⁾ And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the hearing of the LORD. ⁽²²⁾ So the LORD said to Samuel, 'Heed their voice, and make them a king.' And Samuel said to the men of Israel, 'Every man go to his city.'

Acts Chapter 6

⁽¹⁵⁾ And all who sat in the council, looking steadfastly at him, saw his face as the face of an angel. ⁽¹⁾ Then the high priest said, 'Are these things so?' ⁽²⁾ And he said, 'Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran, ⁽³⁾ and said to him, 'Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you.' ⁽⁴⁾ Then he came out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Haran. And from there, when his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell.

⁽⁵⁾ And God gave him no inheritance in it, not even enough to set his foot on. But even when Abraham had no child, He promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his descendants after him. ⁽⁶⁾ But God spoke in this way: that his descendants would dwell in a foreign land, and that they would bring them into bondage and oppress them four hundred years. ⁽⁷⁾ And the nation to whom they will be in bondage I will judge,' said God, 'and after that they shall come out and serve Me in this place.' ⁽⁸⁾ Then He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham begot Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot the twelve patriarchs.

⁽⁹⁾ And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him ⁽¹⁰⁾ and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. ⁽¹¹⁾ Now a famine and great trouble came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and our fathers found no sustenance. ⁽¹²⁾ But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

⁽¹³⁾ And the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph's family became known to the Pharaoh. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Then Joseph sent and called his father Jacob and all his relatives to him, seventy-five people. ⁽¹⁵⁾ So Jacob went down to Egypt; and he died, he and our fathers. ⁽¹⁶⁾ And they were carried back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem.

Luke Chapter 22

⁽²⁴⁾ Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. ⁽²⁵⁾ And He said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called 'benefactors.' ⁽²⁶⁾ But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. ⁽²⁷⁾ For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.

⁽²⁸⁾ But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. ⁽²⁹⁾ And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, ⁽³⁰⁾ that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
