Evening Prayer

Lent
To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, because we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following his laws which he set before us. Daniel 9:9, 10

Confession of Sin
Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 30

Psalm 32

Deuteronomy Chapter 7

⁽¹⁷⁾ If you should say in your heart, 'These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?' -- ⁽¹⁸⁾ you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt: ⁽¹⁹⁾ the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. ⁽²⁰⁾ Moreover the LORD your God will send the hornet among them until those who are left, who hide themselves from you, are destroyed.

⁽²¹⁾ You shall not be terrified of them; for the LORD your God, the great and awesome God, is among you. ⁽²²⁾ And the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. ⁽²³⁾ But the LORD your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed. ⁽²⁴⁾ And He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under heaven; no one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.

⁽²⁵⁾ You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. ⁽²⁶⁾ Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing.

Titus Chapter 3

⁽¹⁾ Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, ⁽²⁾ to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. ⁽³⁾ For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. ⁽⁴⁾ But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,

⁽⁵⁾ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁽⁶⁾ whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, ⁽⁷⁾ that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. ⁽⁸⁾ This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.

⁽⁹⁾ But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. ⁽¹⁰⁾ Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, ⁽¹¹⁾ knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned. ⁽¹²⁾ When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there.

⁽¹³⁾ Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey with haste, that they may lack nothing. ⁽¹⁴⁾ And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful. ⁽¹⁵⁾ All who are with me greet you. John Chapter 1

Jesus answered and said to him, 'Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.' ⁽⁴⁹⁾ Nathanael answered and said to Him, 'Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!' ⁽⁵⁰⁾ Jesus answered and said to him, 'Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
